For the upcoming high school football season in Mississippi, there will be a new destination for teams fortunate to play for a state championship.
The Mississippi High School Activities Association announced this week that the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic - which are the title games in the state - will be held Dec. 4-6 at Davis Wade Stadium on the Mississippi State University campus in Starkville. It’s the first time the title games will be at MSU since 2016.
Since Davis Wade Stadium last hosted the event, the title games have been held at three different locations. Last season, the Gridiron Classic was held at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, where it was held for the fifth time since 2018. It has also been held at the University of Mississippi in Oxford and Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson.
“We express our appreciation to Mississippi State University and Starkville for continued support and for graciously opening their doors to welcome us,” said Rickey Neaves, the executive director of the MHSAA. “We have zero doubt that the experience for our schools, student-athletes, coaches and fans will be second-to-none.”
Davis Wade Stadium will be the site of seven title games as part of the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Mississippi Gridiron Classic. There will be two games on Dec. 4-5, and then three games on Dec. 6.
The defending champions in each classification entering the 2025 season are: Tupelo (7A); Grenada (6A); West Point (5A); Poplarville (4A); Choctaw County (3A); Heidelberg (2A); and Baldwyn (1A).
